About Course

A study of a beginner’s text in Sarf called as-Sarf al-Bahai written Bahauddin al-Amili. A popular text in the Indo-Pak region.

as-Sarf al-Bahai is a text written originally in Persian (Farsi). Many of its translations are available in Urdu. Shaykh Ibrahim Farooqui has translated it into Arabic and English from Urdu. He has also written an explanation of it in English.

The book follows the methodology of ‘Ajami scholars in Sarf. It is considered to be a beginner’s book in Sarf.

The book covers the following topics:
– The Three Types (Parts of Speech in Arabic).

– The Six Types (6 Types of Nouns and Verbs – from the perspective of the number of their root letters).

– The Seven Types (7 Types of Nouns and Verbs – from the perspective of the types of letters they are made of).

– Derivatives from the Masdar (Root Noun).

This course is perfect for those who are looking for a foundational study of Arabic morphology. In the Ajami methodology, Sarf is studied before Nahw.

Thus this book will familiarize you with the foundations of the Arabic language and get you ready for intermediate texts in Sarf in addition to beginner works in Nahw.

Both Nahw (Syntax) and Sarf (Morphology) form the study of Arabic Grammar.
